Dough Mixer Buying
Tips
A person who recently emailed me ask? Any advice before
buying a mixer! I was happy he ask! Because buying a mixer is much like buying a
car!
I recommend purchasing 1 of 2 dough mixers for your
bakery. A 20qrt mixer will reduce time in the donut shop by not obligating your primary 40 qrt.
mixer with smaller cake donut batches, also should your primary mixer breakdown you will have a
backup!
Do check serial numbers and contact the manufacture to
ensure when the dough mixer was manufactured. Restaurant “suppliers” will sell you anything as they don’t care,
except for the sale.
1.
Do check and collect Model number and serial number of the dough mixer in question and call the manufacturer
and confirm date mixer was manufactured. This information will give you the edge when bartering with restaurant
suppliers, seeking top dollar.
2.
It is essential to know the dough mixer power requirements (single phase 220V or 3-phase power) for larger
capacity mixers require 3 phase power (commercial buildings commonly have 3 phase power) and single phase is
common for residential buildings. In
addition should a mixer require 3 phase
power, you will be obligated to purchase a phase converter, converting 3 phase to single phase power and
at a cost of $1200 USD it pays to know what phase power the dough mixer operates on.
3.
Do confirm electrical panel box within existing building will support an additional 220V dough mixer appliance
before hand and before leasing/buying building calculate all 220 appliances, (It is common for the owner of
building to split the cost of an electrical sub panel box if existing box is at maximum capacity.).
